8 dead in three-storey building collapse in Bhiwandi area, Mumbai

Thane: At least eight persons have been killed and 12 others injured on Sunday when a three-storeyed dilapidated building collapsed in Thane district's Bhiwandi town, an official said.

At least 20 persons have been rescued so far, with more feared trapped in the debris. Around 40 persons were staying in the building when it collapsed. 6-7 persons were rescued in seriously injured condition.

NDRF joins rescue operations which are under way, the official added.

The incident occurred in Gaibinagar locality famous for its powerlooms, around 35 kms north of Mumbai.
