New Delhi: After abruptly succumbing to viral fever on her road-show in Varanasi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi is in a stable condition at the Army's Research and Referral Hospital from where she has been shifted to Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.

Although no official confirmation of the news has been given by the hospital, the party said on Wednesday that she was under the observation of specialist doctors and that she was convalescing under supervision of the doctors.

Sonia Gandhi, who is 69 years of age, abruptly returned to New Delhi at midnight from Varanasi by flight.

Randeep Surjewala, AICC's media cell in-charge confirmed that the Congress Chief was in stable condition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also swiftly reacted to the news of Sonia's illness by sending to Varanasi doctors and a plane to assist the ailing leader back to the National Capital.
