New Delhi: Gujarat Health Minister Nitin Patel is likely to succeed Anandiben Patel as the next Gujarat Chief Minister after a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs was convened on Friday where Amit Shah was present.
Although BJP President Amit Shah voiced his support for Gujarat BJP unit chief Vijay Rupani as his chosen candidate, strong resentment from Anandiben Patel has paved the way for Nitin Patel. Anandiben Patel will be proposing Nitin Patel’s name in a cabinet meeting later to take place.
This is not the first time Nitin Patel has been considered as the likely candidate for the post of Chief Minister in Gujarat. There were speculations of him becoming Gujarat CM after Narendra Modi quit his office. However, Modi chose Anandiben Patel as the successor.
BJP President Amit Shah has also been considered for the role of Gujarat CM pertaining to the recent Una incident, Patidar agitation which has crippled the reputation of the state government.
