Lucknow: In another incident of cop brutality in the country, two labourers were allegedly beaten to death at a check post by cops for refusing to pay a bribe of Rs 100 in Mainpuri town of Uttar Pradesh. The cops were then thrashed by the agitated locals who protested against police action.
While the police have claimed that the 2 men, Pankaj and Dilip Yadav, who were cousins, drowned in a pond while running away from the police team, the post mortem confirmed that there was assault involved.
However, the four cops have now been booked for murder.

Reacting on the incident, Lawyer and Activist Abha Singh said, "If the 2 two labours have been killed just for Rs 100 corruption in its brazen form, then it clearly shows that the police have political patronage and that is why they were so emboldened. Otherwise, the government servant cannot have the courage to take the law in its own hand."
"The issue is to prevent such things from happening. The Akhilesh government and the Governor must look into the matter," Abha added.
