Gandhinagar: Former Cabinet Minister for Health in the government of Gujarat, Nitin Patel on Sunday took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat. His oath taking followed that of Vijay Rupani, the newly elected leader of the Gujarat BJP legislature party, who took oath as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Earlier, Nitin Patel was being speculated as the man for the top job in the state after Chief Minister Anandiben Patel resigned from her office. This is the first time ever that the state has a Deputy Chief Minister.
Present in the oath taking ceremony were BJP President Amit Shah, veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and outgoing Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.
