New Delhi: A speeding bus whose brake had reportedly failed killed eight people, including four women, at the Chohal-Chintpuri road near Hoshiarpur on Sunday evening. 15 were injured in the accident.

On Sunday evening, locals of Hoshiarpur were on their way to visit the holy shrine of Mata Chintpurni in Una, Himachal Pradesh where they temporarily halted at the road where they were served foods by different stalls erected for the occasion.

It was during that time when the bus, belonging to a private bus company called Pritam Bus Service, swerved head-on into the crowd, instantly mowing down more than two dozen people on the road.

The fifteen injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur. Four critically injured people were transferred to PGI, Chandigarh.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal offered condolences to the kin of the victims killed in the tragic accident.
