NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met ministers and officials to decide the appointments of chiefs of Central Information Commission (CIC) and Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
According to the reports, no decision was taken in the meeting on the appointments of CIC and CVC. The decision has been deferred for the next meeting which will be held shortly.
The meeting was held at PM Modi’s residence which was reportedly attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh and Leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge.
The names were to be finalised during the meeting for the various posts in CIC and CVC, sources informed.
The post of Chief Information Commissioner has been vacant since September 2014. Rajiv Mathur had completed his term as Chief Information Commissioner on August 22, 2014.
According to the Right to Information Act (RTI), the CIC has one Chief and ten Information Commissioners.
While in CVC, Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar and Vigilance Commissioner JM Garg had completed their term on September 28 and September 7, 2014.
PM Modi has nominated Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to select the Chief Information Commissioner and three other information commissioners.
On the other hand, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner and a Vigilance Commissioner will be appointed by a panel including PM Modi, Rajnath Singh and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
