New Delhi: The Central government on Tuesday told the states that both vigilantism and cow killing were crimes.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an advisory to all states that no person or group can take law into their own hands in the name of protecting cows.
The advisory said that any person, or persons doing so have to be dealt with strictly under the relevant laws, and brought to justice in the quickest possible fashion.
As per Section 39 of the CrPC, any person who is aware of the commission of certain offences or intention thereof can give information to the nearest magistrate or police officer.
The Home Ministry said the offence or its possibility had to be brought to notice of the concerned police authorities or magistrate for appropriate action as per law.
The advisory comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks against ‘gau rakshaks’ and called for action against cow vigilantism.
