Air India senior pilot was detained for smuggling at the Mumbai airport

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an Air India senior pilot was detained for smuggling at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday, 10 August.

As per sources, the Air India pilot identified as Vijay Pratap was reportedly smuggling 530gms of gold bars worth Rs 15.65 lakh. The flight-AI932 was travelling to Mumbai from Jeddah. The airport officials confirmed the matter; further disclosing that the gold bars had been kept by the pilot inside his check-in and hand baggage.

The pilot as of now has been detained and investigations are under way.

Earlier this year, Mumbai airport officials had also seized foreign currency of more than Rs 1 crore from a Chinese national travelling to Hong Kong.

Foreign currency worth Rs 62.26 lakh and 1.2 kg of gold worth Rs 36.47 lakh had also been seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from Chennai and Trichy international airports, respectively this year.
