Rape accused Asaram denied interim bail by Supreme Court

New Delhi: Self-styled godman Asaram, who is facing rape charges, on Thursday was denied interim bail by the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court has also directed AIIMS to constitute a medical board to evaluate the health condition of Asaram.

Earlier a day ago, the Rajasthan High Court also rejected his bail application of self-styled godman Asaram.

Back in May 2016, Police registered a case of rioting against supporters Asaram who attacked police personnel overnight here, injuring seven policemen. 

The police personnel were injured when some 2,000 people demanding Asaram's release stoned the Parliament Street police station in the heart of the city on Sunday night. A few police vehicles were also damaged in the protest. No arrests have been made yet, a police officer said.

Asaram has bee in jail, after a teenage girl accused him of sexual assault at his ashram in Manai village near Jodhpur in August 2013. The girl who belonged to Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was a student at the ashram.
