New Delhi: With the brutal gang rape of a woman and her daughter on the highway in Bulandshahr still fresh on the minds of the people, this latest incident from Meerut has added to the consternation of woman all over the country. A woman who was walking with her daughter was kidnapped by five men from her car and was allegedly gang raped.
The woman and her under-age daughter were walking to a medical store in Shastri Nagar, Block I when they were suddenly ambushed by a group of five men who kidnapped the mother in broad daylight. After almost four hours, the woman was thrown unconscious off the vehicle at a burial ground at Shivaji Road.
When the victim regained consciousness, she directly went to the police station and registered a complaint saying that she had been able to recognise one of the attackers. Police, after taking her report and conducting the medical examination, nabbed one of the identified attackers.
CCTV footage in the area where the woman was kidnapped is being studied by the police to get more information about the white vehicle.
Gang rape, or rape, has become a menace in India where accused go largely absconding despite being booked by police. All assurances towards women's safety in the country have amounted to scarce protection for women.
