Srinagar: Separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday defied house arrest and staged a sit-in outside their residences as part of a separatist-called 'referendum march' in Srinagar.
The separatist, headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, had asked the people to hold a "referendum" march at Lal Chowk today and on Sunday.
The separatist camp is leading the protests in the Valley over the killings of civilians during the protests against the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani last month.
The authorities had sealed Lal Chowk, disallowing all pedestrian and vehicular movement towards the city centre.
Both Geelani and Mirwaiz were later arrested and placed under house arrest.
