New Delhi: Haryana sports minister Anil Vij, who recently received flak for going to Rio in order to ‘cheer the players,’ has justified his trip saying that the trip was planned to see the problems which the players face first hand and to come up with a suitable solution.
The minister, slamming his critics, said that they have defective thinking and that they have “started a hate campaign against our country”.
The minister received wide criticism for the extravagant trip of his, with some calling it a junket, whereas others calling it sheer wastage of taxpayers’ money. People were annoyed with the fact that the Indian players participating in Rio have been devoid of even basic facilities while the ministers are going for such trips only to ‘boost the morale of the players.’ Instead, had the same amount been spent on the players, things might have been different today.
The sports minister on reaching Rio declared prize money of Rs six crore for players bagging gold medal.
