New Delhi: Arun Jaitley will not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Finance Ministers' summit in Islamabad on 25 and 26 August, government sources said on Tuesday. The Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das will represent India at the two day event to be hosted in Islamabad.

The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had last month attended the SAARC Home Ministers' conference amid tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan on Sunday had said that it will play a “good host” and avoid the repetition of tense atmosphere that prevailed during Rajnath Singh’s recent visit.

“A warm welcome will be given to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at the SAARC summit”, Pakistan said in a statement.
