New Delhi: The constricting rule of highly reputable educational institutions was again made ostensible when a law student at the Amity Law School, IP University committed suicide due to the college's obstinacy towards his attendance.

Sushant Rohilla was a 3rd year student of the Amity Law School, IP University who was favourably received by everyone because of his debating capabilities which had won him many prizes.

A mandatory 75% attendance

Due to the university's mandatory 75% attendance demanded of all students, Sushant, who was in 3rd year, was debarred from the semester examinations. Sushant's friend who took to social media to highlight the ordeal his friend had been through said that Sushant had suffered a foot injury following which he could not attend the classes. On top of that, Sushant's friend said that the 75% attendance rule was arbitrary in nature.

Sushant, before hanging himself at his house in Sarojini Nagar in Delhi, had sent a letter entreating the college authorities to reconsider their decision since he had actively participated in many college competitions.

"I had an accident too and a severe foot injury which led me to walk with a walking assistance stick," wrote the student.

Sushant had specifically written in the letter that if the college authorities did not change their decision, it would 'hamper his life to unimaginable extent'.

"Please help me," wrote Sushant.

However, when the university still remained rigid about its decision, Sushant took the extreme step of committing suicide where he said that he was ashamed of not being a good son.

Rohilla's father, Jagdish Kumar, who is a joint secretary in the Rajya Sabha, had this to say about his son's demise, "I am proud of my son. He was not a soldier. But he sacrificed his for the cause of hundreds of students of Amity Law School Delhi."
