New Delhi: Delhi police have finally arrested eight men involved in the kidnapping, rape, trading and selling off of a 12-year-old who was kidnapped from northeast Delhi ten years ago. The girl who was rescued by police after ten gruelling years, returned to her family, confirmed the police.
Reiterating that she was repeatedly raped, the police said that the victim had been sold off to nine individuals within two months in 2009. The kidnapped girl, who is 22-years-old now, has two children with her.
Police also said that the gang is suspected of having their involvement in human trafficking by kidnapping young girls and selling them off into the market.
“The case was reopened, the statement of the victim was recorded, and a medical examination was conducted. A special investigation team (SIT) comprising inspectors Sanjeev Kumar and Mangesh Tyagi and sub-inspector Mamta was formed under the supervision of ACP Ram Chander and sent to Punjab and Haryana from where we arrested all the accused. We believe that a gang operates for the sole purpose of selling girls for marriages,” AK Singla, DCP of northeast Delhi, said.
According to the Indian Express, the girl was kidnapped on July 2, 2006 following which she was sold to unknown individuals time and again. Finally, she was forced to settle in with a truck driver at Punjab's Mansa district. Police claimed that the girl had borne two children with the truck driver who died due to a heart attack on 2011. After the truck driver’s death, the victim was then raped by the nephew of the deceased.
The victim was then moved from Bathinda to Rajasthan where, on the pretext of keeping her at a home, she was made to work in the fields and was forced to live in a shack in the fields. From Rajasthan, she was sold to a dance bar in Siliguri after which she was convinced by someone to return to Delhi.
“In 2015, the victim was thrown out of her house and she stayed in Bathinda, working as a cook at weddings and as a dancer in events. Later, she was taken to Siliguri and sold at a dance bar. She met a woman in the bar who gave her money to return to Punjab. This woman convinced her to return to Delhi," said the police officer.
The arrested individuals' names are as follows: Pratap Singh, Sarup Chand, Aruna, Ranju and Shyam Sunder, Makkhan Singh and Birender Singh, all of whom will be booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
