New Delhi: Indian politician and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Mahesh Sharma courted controversy on Friday when his personal bodyguards were caught on CCTV camera ruthlessly thrashing security guards of a society in Ghaziabad.
In the CCTV footage which was shared online by ANI, the bodyguard of the mantri is seen thrashing the security guards without any provocation from the latter's side.

Asked about why they were beaten up, one of the security guards said that the minister's convoy had been told to wait for two minutes. "There were about five vehicles. We told them to wait for two minutes after which the mantri's bodyguard started beating us. All three of us security guards were brutally beaten up by the bodyguard."
Pankaj, the Housing society official in Ghaziabad, said that the people of the housing society were angry over the incident and that it was not the way for the officials to behave. One police officer said that investigation will be conducted over the incident.
When asked about the incident, the Minister of Culture and Tourism said that he has suspended the bodyguard and asked the police to inquire into the incident.

Incidences of VIPs relishing their power over innocent bystanders have largely gone unnoticed or have been excused over time by the government.
