New Delhi: The West Bengal Congress on Saturday morning posted former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's most controversial quotes as a tribute to him on his 72nd birth anniversary.
The account handle on micro-blogging site Twitter posted Gandhi’s most controversial statement he gave after the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi.
Referring to anti-Sikh riots in the aftermath of the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi said, “When a big tree falls, the ground shakes.”
The tweet was promptly deleted but the damage had been done by then.
Gandhi’s comment was interpreted as his approval to the events during which more than 3,000 people were massacred.
