New Delhi: Members of a local Ganesh Mandal allegedly punished workers in a bakery in Pune by making them do sit-ups for refusing to donate for the upcoming festival, said the police.

The incident, which occurred at a bakery in Bhosari area on August 15, Independence Day, was captured on camera where four to five men were made to do sit-ups.

According to the police, the accused persons had gone to the bakery and demanded donation of Rs 151 from the workers for the upcoming Ganesh festival.  Pertaining to the fact that the workers were non-Maharashtrians and could not pay because of the owner being absent, the accused individuals made them do sit-ups.

After the workers complained to the police, a case was registered under IPC sections 294 (obscene acts in public), 341 (wrongful confinement), 385 (extortion) and 506 (Criminal intimidation).

Three people have been arrested in the incident.
