Chennai: On Tuesday, a man in Chennai was seized by officials at the Chennai Central railway station for smuggling more than 150 Indian star tortoises in his luggage.
Police investigation into the matter revealed that the man was going to smuggle the tortoise out of India to other south-east Asian countries.
The Indian star tortoise is the most prized products in the international pet market. Although the size of the Indian star tortoises are considerably far from being endangered, the large number of exported through smuggling is rapidly resulting in their extinction.
