New Delhi: In a ramshackle house in north-west Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area, police on Friday found two young girls, aged 3 and 8, in deplorable condition after they were allegedly abandoned by their parents in the house. Reports suggest that the two young girls had been abandoned because of their gender.

After neighbours complained to the police about the girls being abandoned inside the house, the officials broke into the house and found Himanshi (8-year-old), Deepali (3-year-old) lying together on a dilapidated bed holding each other’s hand. The two girls were starved for more than a week, and Himanshi had deep gashes on her head which had attracted worms and flies into the house.

Since there were no ventilations inside the room, flies and mosquitoes was festering inside the house. After police discovered them, they were rushed to the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.

Investigation by police into the matter revealed that the two young girls were living with a 35-year-old man named Bunty and his wife Rajni in the Nepali Colony.  The couple has a 5-year-old son.

Further investigation into the matter also revealed that the girls had a grandmother who was herself abandoned to an old-age home by Bunty and his wife.

The rescued sisters are recovering at the hospital as their wounds have been dressed and they are under the doctor’s observation.
