New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP Virendra Singh Mast on Friday accused US embassy of denying him visa for not removing his turban.
The lawmaker said he went to embassy for visa documentation and the officials there told him that they wanted his pictures without turban.
“When I went there for visa documentation, they wanted my pictures taken without my turban. I refused and turned down the visa,” Virendra Singh said.
The BJP MP said that it was embassy which had invited him to participate at a programme in US. He also said that he will raise the issue in the Parliament.
“I didn’t ask for the invitation, they had invited me. I will talk to MEA about this, and talk about this in Parliament,” the BJP member said.
However, the US embassy has denied all the charges by Mast. The embassy further said it didn’t ask the MP to remove his turban.
“During the visa application process, the US embassy Delhi doesn’t ask individuals to remove turbans or other religious dress nor do we ask individuals to remove their turbans for photos submitted in visa application process.”
