Bengal: 2 killed, many feared trapped as fire engulfs govt hospital in Murshidabad

New Delhi: Frantic scene was witnessed at a government hospital in Murshidabad, Bengal, when fire broke out in the hospital's medicines department.

One individual was killed in the fire as many are feared trapped inside the smoke. In a footage shared online, rescuers and civilians can be seen rushing into the building to assist the people engulfed in smoke. 

Patients inside the hospital broke windows to escape the fire and the billowing smoke. However, there is no information about how bedridden patients in the hospital were rescued. 

Some infants inside the hospital have reportedly gone missing after the fire broke out. 

Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and bought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Bengal CM has announced Rs.2 lakh compensation for next of kin of those who lost their lives.

The fire claimed 3 lives & injured 50 children. WB CM also asked police, fire department and health department to submit detailed reports.

WB CM orders formation of committee to probe the fire tragedy at Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital, is personally monitoring situation.
