The incident took place at around 2.30 am between Aluva and Karakutty stations in Kerala’s Ernakulam district

Kochi: Twelve coaches of Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore express train derailed at Karukutty, Kerala on Sunday. However, no casualties have been reported yet.
 
The incident took place at around 2.30 am between Aluva and Karakutty stations in Kerala’s Ernakulam district. 
 
After the incident, the stranded passengers were ferried by buses and local trains. Due to the derailment, traffic route is expected to be affected and approximately 6-10 hours are expected to be taken in order to complete the repair works and bring the route back to normalcy. 
 
Southern Railways informed that five long distance trains on certain routes have been diverted. 15 passenger trains and some other trains were also cancelled. 
 
Karnataka State Road Transport arranged 11 buses for ferrying the passengers.
