FIR against Gujarat BJP MLA Kumar Kanani

Surat: Police in Gujarat's Surat on Sunday lodged an FIR against BJP legislator Kumar Kanani for allegedly creating ruckus during the party-organised 'Tiranga Yatra'.
Police said when the yatra led by Kanani, who represents Varachha constituency, was moving through Ashwini Kumar Road shouting slogans, it was met by a group of Congress workers carrying black flags to protest against him.
They had reached the local office of Congress municipal corporator and Surat City unit treasurer Dinesh Kachhadiya in the same area, when Kanani and his supporters loudly started taunting the opposition party.
This led to an argument between the two groups and clashes broke out. At this, Kanani snatched a baton of a police constable on duty and started beating people and scaring them away, police said.
Kachhadiya and his supporters were engaged in clash with the other group. With police rushing to the spot, the situation was brought to control and the groups were dispersed. Later, a cross-complaint was also filed against the Congress leader.
Later in the evening, Surat City Women's Congress president and local corporator Jyoti Sojitra took a march to the BJP legislator's house with some 25 supporters. They raised slogans against the MLA and threw bangles and women's petticoats into his premises. They were rounded up by police.
BJP's Tiranga Yatra is being taken out in different constituencies across the country to recall the contribution of forgotten freedom fighters. It was launched at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
