New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday took cognizance of Uttar Pradesh  minister Azam Khan's remark on the Bulandshahr gang-rape by saying that statements from political leaders like him create mistrust in investigation and the entire system.

Calling his comment "objectionable and insensitive", the SC sought explanation from Azam Khan about why he had termed the Bulandshahr gang-rape case "a political conspiracy".

Azam Khan, a Samajwadi Party leader and UP's Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, fumed the entire nation when he said that the gang-rape of a minor girl and her mother on the Bulandshahr Highway was a political conspiracy.

"To get power, politicians can get down to any level, they can murder people, trigger riots, kill innocent people. So the truth has to be found out," the minister had said.
