MIG-29K fuel drop tank causes fire to break out on INS Dega runway

New Delhi: A minor fire broke out when an external fuel tank fell from a navy fighter aircraft on Monday morning on the CISF residential colony in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The fire broke out on the runway of INS Dega in Vishakhapatnam when a fuel tank of a navy fighter aircraft—MIG-29K jettisoned accidentally. As per officials the MIG was taking off on a routine training at about 10 am today. The prompt action by ground support staff at the Visakhapatnam air base resulted in quick dousing of the fire.



As per current reports, no one has been injured but damage has been sustained to the aircraft. The officials said that on its way back the aircraft’s second fuel tank was dropped to balance the weight of the aircraft during landing. However, the second empty fuel tank accidently fell on the CISF residential colony.
