PM Modi inaugurates SAUNI

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 30 Aug, addressed his first public rally in Gujarat since he became the Prime Minister of the country.
Apart from addressing the public rally, PM also inaugurated the first phase of SAUNI (Saurashtra Narmada Avataran for Irrigation) Project at Sanosara village near Dhroll in Gujarat's Jamnagar district.
While addressing the people of Gujarat, the PM said, "Whatever I learnt in Gujarat has helped me a lot when I went to Delhi".
Under the SAUNI project, there are nearly 10 dams and reservoirs of Rajkot, Jamnagar and Morbi, that would be filled up with the water of Narmada River. The project, worth 12,000 crore rupees, is considered to be an ambitious one from Prime Minister Modi. Nearly 115 dams of the Saurashtra region, which faces shortage of water for irrigation and drinking purposes, will be filled up.
While addressing the public rally, PM Modi also described the achievements of his government stating that it was his government that brought a crop insurance scheme to help farmers and also his government which has taken up many initiatives to help the farmers.
The SAUNI will fill-in 115 dams in Saurashtra with the waters of the river Narmada through a network of pipelines, the PM said while addressing the public rally in Gujarat.
SAUNI project was announced in 2012 when Prime Minister Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was at the function, as was his predecessor Anandiben Patel who resigned last month amid allegations that she mishandled the Patel and Dalit agitations in the state.
