New Delhi: A grim incidence of brutal nature took place in Tamil Nadu’s Karur Engineering College on Tuesday where a third-year civil engineering student murdered a junior student for allegedly rejecting his proposals.

K. Sonali, the 22-year-old victim hailing from Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, was attending a class when P. Udayakamar, also a 22-year-old, entered the class with a wooden log and brutally thrashed Sonali in front of all the other students. The professor in the class tried to intervene, but he was also attacked by the student.

When the attack occurred, all the students inside the class repelled the scene in horror, unable to help the girl.

After the incident, Sonali was immediately rushed to a private hospital from where she was later referred to Madurai where she died.

Police later arrested the suspect who was roaming inside the campus. The arrested student who was in his 4th year had stopped attending all his classes.

“The accused is suspected to have been in an inebriated condition when he committed the crime. Both of them had pursued B.E. (Civil Engineering) and he was senior to her by one year,” said one police official.

Sonali’s father had passed away recently and she was survived by her mother who is working in Chennai. The relatives of Sonali allege that the college authorities and officials went incognito after the incidence occurred.

Earlier in Chennai, Infosys techie Swathi was hacked to death in daylight at a local railway station by a jilted man who had been rejected by the woman.
