Lucknow: The Akhilesh Yadav government has spent almost 9 crore on tea, samosas and gulab jamuns offered to the guests by ministers in the four years of Samajwadi Party rule.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) Arun Kumar Kori alone has spent Rs 22,93,800 during his four years as Social Welfare minister.
This information was revealed by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav himself in the state Assembly last week.
Kailash Chaurasia, Minister for Child Development and Nutrition, Primary Education, has spent Rs 22,85,900, followed by Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan, who has splurged Rs 22,86,620 on snacking.
The Chief Minister, however, clarified, that a minister can spend Rs 2,500 per day on refreshment within the state and Rs 3,000 daily outside the state to perform the duties.
Shiv Kumar Beria, former UP minister, has spent Rs 21,93,900 during his tenure as minister.
Minister of State for Women Welfare, Sadab Fatima (Independent charge) has spent Rs 72,500 in her short term of one year.
Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary defended his ministers saying money spent on snacking is a courtesy which the staff of the ministers follow.
"This money is used for official meetings and sometimes on people who come from the ministers' constituencies in large numbers. This is just a courtesy which the staff of the ministers follows," said Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary.
