Chennai: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government on Thursday announced that the maternity leave of govt employees will be increased from six months to nine months.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said in the assembly that the govt employees can now avail maternity leave up to nine months.
“In 2011, my government increased the maternity leave from 90 days to six months. Now, the government is increasing the maternity leave from six months to nine months,” chief minister J Jayalalithaa said in the assembly.
The AIADMK govt said that they have fulfilled the poll promise by increasing the maternity leave of govt employees.
The Rajya Sabha last month passed the six months maternity leave. The govt made it compulsory for all offices in the public and private sector to give six months maternity leave.
Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi said that it was a result of two years of hard work done by her ministry.
