New Delhi: A 24-year-old businessman was killed on early Saturday morning when the BMW vehicle he was driving crashed out into the grille of a flyover in southeast Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.
Abhijeet Singh was to get engaged on the day when his vehicle met with an accident. He was returning from a bachelor’s party which had been set by his friends. Believed to be in an inebriated condition when he was driving, Singh lost control of the vehicle on the Lodhi flyover and crashed against a grille. The impact resulted in Singh’s car scuttling through the air for a distance of 50 metres when it then turtled on the road.
A passerby who witnessed the horrific accident rushed to Singh’s help and pulled him out of the driver’s seat. Singh was rushed to the Moolchand hospital where he soon succumbed to his injuries.
“He sustained severe head injuries that caused internal bleeding. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. We have also initiated an inquiry into the case,” a senior police officer said.
“Singh’s father, a builder, had been preparing for his son’s engagement. Even though he had asked Singh to be at home, a day before the engagement, he had insisted to go and party with his friends,” the police said.
Singh’s family is in shock after hearing about the incident and is distraught that their son should pass away so soon.
