New Delhi: A Dalit couple hailing from Pipalhera village in Muzaffarnagar was allegedly assaulted by land owners after they refused to manual labour in their sugarcane fields.
The husband, Raju, was beaten up Ina Singh and his gang on Saturday when he refused to do manual labour in Singh’s field. Raju’s wife, Mantesh, who tried to intervene in the matter, was also beaten up and misbehaved with by the men.
After the news of the incident spread, members from nearby Dalit communities protested at the Khatoli police station over the incident.
A complaint has been filed over the incident and police are conducting investigation into the matter.
Dalit atrocities have been the focal point of different political parties before the UP elections next year. While some parliamentarians have expressed outrage against the atrocities, some have remained quiet and retired over these incidences.
