Preeti Rathi, a 23-year old from Delhi, left for Mumbai on May 1, as she was selected for short service commission in military nursing service and was to report to her senior on May 15.
As Preeti, alongwith her father, uncle and aunt got down at Bandra station of Mumbai and started looking for the nearest exit, somebody from the back tapped on her shoulder. As soon as she turned around, a man with his half face covered, threw acid on her face.
This man was Ankur Panwar, her neighbour, whom she had refused to marry.
Preeti was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Preeti’s health keep deteriorating and she finally succumbed to her injuries on June 1, 2013.
In January 2014, Ankur Panwar was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch and the final verdict will be announced tomorrow i.e. September 7.
