Guwahati: In a shocking inhumane act, a deaf, mute and mentally challenged girl was thrashed by a mob out of sheer misunderstanding in Assam’s Tinsukia village.

The girl was tied and beaten up by the locals after she was seen walking around in the locality. The villagers assaulted her and later she was tied to a pole. She was the stripped by the women of the locality.

They suspected that she was a baby stealer and the suspicion stemmed from a scare in the area which had been prevalent from the one and a half months. Over 30 villages in the area have reported the incidents of unidentified miscreants entering the houses in the middle of the night and attacking people with knife.

The girl was rescued by police and two people were arrested in relation to the incident.
