New Delhi: Days after the world honoured Mother Teresa with Sainthood, and paid homage for her unparalleled service to humanity, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudhir Gupta has questioned whether or not the honour to her was appropriate.
The BJP MP from Mandsaur has said that while people like Baba Amte served nation without taking anything in return, Mother Teresa took religion from those she served.
However, clarifying his statement, Sudhir Gupta said, "Didn't comment on sainthood, but the question is very complex. We consider some small and some great. Mother Teresa's service makes her great. Baba Amte served the nation, he didn't ask for anything in return. But when Mother served, she took religion in return. It must be mulled whether they can be saints who are involved in forced conversions."
Responding to BJP MP's comment, party spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said, "That could be anybody's individual opinion. As far as the BJP is considered, I think PM Modi has already clarified and we all have rejoiced sainthood of Mother Teresa."
