Sexual Harassment Case: TERI Chief RK Pachauri gets anticipatory bail

NEW DELHI: Accused of sexual harassment charges, environmentalist RK Pachauri gets anticipatory bail but has been barred from entering the TERI office.

The move that is set to relief the TERI Chief has been initiated on conditions that he will cooperate in the investigation whenever needed, he will not influence witnesses and would not contact TERI employees directly or indirectly.

Pachauri has also been ordered not to leave the country without the permission from the court.

75-year-old Pachauri accused of sexual exploitation by his 29-year-old employee was hospitalized a day before he was to appear before the court for bail hearing.

Earlier in the day, the statement of the complainant was taken under section 164 of CrPC. During the recording, the alleged victim had corroborated with what she had mentioned in her complaint against the TERI Director-General.

The Defence council who was to submit latest report from the hospital on Pachauri's health status at the time of the hearing said that section 354A is a bailable offence and because of this anticipatory bail should be granted.

He further said that his client is suffering from a heart disease and is 75-year-old; should get anticipatory bail.
