Kerala-based NGO to be awarded by UNESCO on International Literacy Day

New Delhi: A Kerala-based NGO will be given the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy for its literacy-linked development programmes on Friday at a ceremony in Paris.

The Jan Sikshan Sansthan (JSS) is an NGO that works for the underprivileged individuals to make their livelihood better.

The NGO has bagged the award for its contribution in the field of lifelong education and skill development programme in rural areas.

JSS chairman PV Abdul Wahab will receive the award at the ceremony in Paris on Friday. The ceremony date also marks the 50th anniversary celebrations of UNESCO’s literacy programmes.

The global celebration will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
