New Delhi: After promoting Gujarat tourism with the proverbial tagline which says 'Khushbu Gujarat ki' and 'Kuch din toh Gujariye Gujarat mein', Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was entreated by a Dalit organisation in Gujarat with a message which said 'Badbu Gujarat ki."
The Una Dalit Atyachar Ladat Samiti (UDALS) will send postcards to Amitabh Bachchan with the message 'Badbu Gujarat ki' (Stink of Gujarat).
“Following PM Narendra Modi's request, he had done `Khushbu Gujarat Ki' commercials. Now, as we Dalits have stopped disposing of carcasses, he should come to Gujarat to spend some days and experience the `Badbu Gujarat Ki' (stink of Gujarat)," said Jignesh Mevani, convener of UDALS.
The UDALS will be organising a public meeting on September 13 in the city where postcards will be sent at Mr Bachchan's address by thousands of Dalit families.
After the Una incident in Gujarat where several Dalit individuals were publicly thrashed for skinning a dead cow and getting rid of the carcass, Dalits in Gujarat have protested against the government by not ridding the city streets of the dead carcasses of the animals, leading to the development of rotting stench in the city.
Not only to highlight the atrocities being perpetrated against Dalits, the organisation will also be focusing on protesting for the landless people belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Castes.
