Vellore: One of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, AG Peralivalan, was on Tuesday attacked by another inmate, Rajesh, in Vellore prison. After the attack, the 44-year-old Peralivalan is undergoing treatment at the prison hospital.

Peralivalan has been behind bars since the day of his arrest on June 11, 1991 and is serving life imprisonment. The jail authorities have been not disclosed the reason behind the attack and a probe is going on in this matter.

Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber at nearby Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991 and seven persons-- Murugan, Santhan, Perarivalan, Nalini, Robert Payas, Jayakumar and Ravichandran, were convicted in the case.
