New Delhi: During the occasion of Eid-al-Adha on Tuesday, police in Himachal Pradesh clamped down on youths with tear gas shells at the Madrasa Quadria Missarwala near Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district. The youths had allegedly resorted to stone pelting.
Around four students were injured in the incident.
According to reports, the stone pelting incident was started by some students of the Madrasa who acted on behalf of some local rival groups to try and establish control of affairs inside the madrasa.
At that time when the stone pelting occurred, there were at least 2,500 people inside the Masjid reciting their prayer for the occasion.
“The incident is result of some rivalry between two factions of the community and one group apparently instigated the students to resort to this mischief. Though no one was injured, i have taken the incident very seriously and appropriate action will be taken," the Indian Express quotes Soumya Sambasivan, Superintendent of Police, as saying.
She also said that police was well aware of the people who were trying to replicate stone pelting in Kashmir inside Himachal Pradesh.
