New Delhi: A recent video that has been doing rounds on the social media has again brought Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) back to the headlines. The video that was captured by an onlooker shows MNS workers allegedly beating up a North Indian fruit and vegetable vendor over the issue of letting farmers sell their produce directly to customers.

In the video, the MNS workers can be seen attacking a North Indian fruit and vegetable vendor after local farmers from Nashik district raised objection to the North Indian vendors selling their wares in the suburbs of Ghatkopar. The activists not only assaulted the vendor but also overturned his fruit cart and spilled all the fruits on the road.

As per police reports, the MNS activists who attacked the North Indian vendors were led by their local vibhag pramukh Ganesh Bhagat.

Further disclosing the matter, the MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande said, the local farmers tried to set up stalls in the area only to be chased away by the North Indian vendors.

“The farmers complained to us and our boys took action. How can bhaiyas (North Indians are addressed so in Mumbai) be allowed to drive away Marathi farmers?” Deshpande further added.

The MNS workers who were arrested on the complaint, were later set free on bail.
