New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Samajwadi Party (SP) appointed Shivpal Yadav to replace UP CM Akhilesh Yadav as the state party president.

Prior to this, the stories of a riff between the former state party president, Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav had surfaced after which Shivpal Yadav, the current state party president had threatened to resign from the party.

The decision of giving the command of state party president to Shivpal Yadav came from the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Last month, while addressing a rally, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had lashed out at his party leaders, legislators and ministers, accusing them of land grabbing and harassing poor people. Visibly angry at his party men, especially after his younger brother and PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav had resigned, the Samajwadi Party chief said if Shivpal went away, the party and the government would be in grave crisis.

“Unhone pehle bhi ek baar istifa dia tha. Maine mana kar dia. Agar chale gaye hote to aisi-taisi ho jaati (He also resigned once earlier. I refused to accept the resignation. Had he gone, it would have been a crisis),” the Samajwadi Party chief said.

Uttar Pradesh will be going to polls in 2017.
