A unique festival was celebrated in Rajasthan's Veer Teja temple in which devotees voluntarily received snake bites

New Delhi: A unique snake festival was celebrated in Rajasthan's Veer Teja temple on Thursday in which devotees voluntarily received snakebites to bring good fortune. 
 
The festival is celebrated every year at the temple of Veer Teja, a legendary folk hero, in Tonk town of Rajasthan in presence of hundred of devotees, holding snakes and receiving their bites. It is believed that snake bites cure ailments and bring good fortune. 
 
According to Hindy mythology, offering prayers to serpents helps people in attaining salvation.
