New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday appointed Alka Sirohi, a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as its Chairman.
Sirohi’s appointment will be effective from September 21.
“The appointment is till further orders or till completion of her term as Member on January 3, 2017, whichever is earlier,” an official release said.
The post of UPSC Chairman will fall vacant on September 20, consequent upon demitting of office by Deepak Gupta on attaining 65 years of age.
Sirohi was sworn in as Member of UPSC in January 2012, after a long and successful career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
