Ahmedabad: A 16-year-old teenager and his two friends who went on a joyride ended up hitting a biker and a 60-year-old.
The incident happened when the teenager lost control of the ambulance van he was driving and hit two persons before crashing into a sign board in Bapunagar, Ahmedabad.
According to eye-witnesses, the three teenagers were seen speeding down the Amber Cinema Road.
"When the boys lost control, the ambulance first hit Jatanben Rabari, 60, and then rammed into a bike rider, Jeevandan Vaishnav, 35. The aged woman has suffered injuries in her leg, while the biker has been rushed to a local hospital with grievous head injuries. The boys managed to get away after the ambulance hit a wall," a police source said.
"Even though eye witnesses have identified the three as teenagers we will have to first establish their identities and their ages before booking them for the accident" added a senior police official.
The teenager was tasked to clean his father's van every morning. On Wednesday, he discovered that his father had left the key in the van. So he called two of his friends and the trio went for a ride.
The boy's father Sanjay Chauhan, a resident of Abhilasha apartment in Bapunagar is a private ambulance driver.
The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera.
Traffic Department's H Division Police Inspector MM Rajyaguru said, “We will check the CCTV footage and take statements from the witnesses who saw the accident. We will not be able to confirm who was driving the vehicle till we conclude the investigation. The two persons who were hit by the ambulance jeep sustained minor injuries and were treated as outdoor patients.”
