New Delhi: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday refused parole to gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli on the grounds that his wife's condition did not seem critical.

Arun Gawli, who is serving time in jail for the murder of Shiv Sena leader Kamalakar Jamsandekar, had filed a petition to the HC seeking parole in regard to his wife going under operation at a Mumbai hospital.

A division bench comprising of justices Bhushan and Atul ruled on Wednesday that it was not clear whether Asha Gawli needed surgery at all.

After Gawli's petition, the Maharashtra government had protested his parole saying that Gawli's wife was not in a serious condition. And considering the information from the Mumbai police that Gawli's return might trigger unrest at his residence in Dagadi Chawl, Divisional Commissioner straight rejected his plea.
