Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal leader (SAD) Paramjit Singh and his son, who had assaulted a nurse at a hospital in Moga on Friday have been arrested, police said.
The duo was arrested from a bus stand in Baghapurana.
The police said that they were conducting raids when they got a tip-off that the sarpanch and his family were roaming near the bus stand.
“We immediately sent the police team and nabbed both the accused,” Jaspal Singh, Baghapurana deputy superintendent said.
Paramjit Singh and his son Gurjeet Singh had assaulted the pregnant nurse Ramandeep Kaur at Gupta hospital in Moga, Punjab.
The Akali leader was at the hospital with his son to get a neighbour discharged when they were asked by the nurse to wait at the reception. This made them furious and they started pushing Ramandeep.
“He started abusing me, saying ‘tu mainu jandi nahin, main Akali sarpanch aa’ (You don’t know me. I am an Akali sarpanch),” she stated in her first-information report (FIR).
“After that, Gurjeet pushed me and when I tried to resist, both the sarpanch and his son thrashed me. I received internal injuries,” she stated.
Both the father and son were booked under sections 451 (house trespass to commit an offence), 323 (punishment for causing hurt voluntarily), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intent in crime) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
