Ashok Pradahan booked on charges of rape

New Delhi: Four-time BJP MP from Khurja and now a senior Samajwadi Party functionary, Ashok Pradahan on Monday was booked by the Noida Police on charges of rape and attempt to murder.

The former union minister and present General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh ruling Samajwadi Party, Pradhan was booked after a 24-year-old woman filed a complaint against the minister for allegedly raping her over the past 11 months.

As per the complaint filed by the victim, the police said, the woman was allegedly raped by Pradhan and her father-in-law for the past 11 months in Noida. The victim has also pressed physical assault charges against four of her in-laws. The victim has further claimed that her husband was an alcoholic and used to drink every night and molest her sexually.

Following the complaint, the police have registered FIR against the SP leader Ashok Pradhan and the father-in-law under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and section 498 (Dowry act) 406, 109, and 506 of the IPC against other family members.

According to the FIR filed, Ashok Pradhan raped her at her in-laws home. Pradhan and her family-in-laws had further threatened to kill her family members if she would complain.  She also alleged that her father in-law Pankaj Jindal had also raped her after mixing sedative in her drink.

The SP leader who has been a former MP in the previous Vajpayee government has denied any such charges saying, “The victim’s family-in-laws are my family friends. There is a long dispute between the family and the victim. She is now staying to her parent’s home for the last 11 months. There should be fair investigation in this case.

Speaking on the matter, a senior police official said, “We are investigating the case on both family dispute and other allegation claimed by victim.”
