New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to convene meetings of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on release of Cauvery river waters.
The internal strife over Cauvery river water has resulted in massive protests both in the state of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court had earlier told Karnataka that it must release 6,000 cusecs of water for a week to assist farmers in Tamil Nadu. However, Karnataka had not adhered to this order.
CM Siddaramaiah told the Supreme Court that Karnataka itself is facing shortage of drinking water. Farmers in Tamil Nadu are desperately seeking water because of shortage of monsoon rains this season.
